Foundation University in Dumaguete City is celebrating its 62nd Founder’s Day on July 4.

This year’s celebration will start with the 10.5 km and 5 km Leandro G. Sinco Run on Sunday, July 3.

Giles Roxas, university assistant director for sports, said the run will start and finish at Robinson’s Place Dumaguete. Gunstart is at 6 a.m. and, in keeping with the University’s Rice is Life advocacy, the prizes for the Top 10 finishers will be rice, as well as a certificate for all finishers.

A registration fee of P75 and P45 will be charged for the 10.5k and 5k runs, respectively.

On July 4, the Foundation University community will start the day early with a fun walk around Dumaguete City, to be followed by a holy mass at the FU Main Campus, and a community breakfast.

The rest of the morning will be devoted to Filipino games, to be participated in by administrators, faculty, staff and students.

On Wednesday, July 6, the University will have its opening academic convocation at the Sofia Soller Sinco Hall at 2 p.m. with Simon Sandoval, an international runner and climber and a computer programming expert, as speaker.

This will be followed by the picturesque Dal-uy activity at the Rizal Blvd. at dusk, where the FU community will release some 4000 water lanterns into the sea with prayers and wishes for a fruitful year.

The week will also see students involved in sports and cultural activities, in a festival initiated by the Student Government.

Foundation University was established on July 4, 1949 by Dr. Vicente G. Sinco, former Philippine Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, a signatory to the United Nations Charter, and 8th president of the University of the Philippines.

This year’s theme is “FU @ 62: It’s all about you!”
