Foundation University is set to host the 11th Visayas Universities Debate Championships on Feb. 15-18, an annual tournament between high school and college students from the Visayas region employing the Asian Parliamentary format.

Visayas Debate Championships Director Micah Stefan Dagaerag, FU faculty, said the confirmed participants this year include University of San Carlos, University of San Jose – Recoletos, UP Tacloban, UP Visayas-Iloilo, UP Visayas-Miagao, the University of Cebu, Silliman University, St. Paul University-Dumaguete and Foundation U.

Dagaerag explained that the Asian Parliamentary format only allows 30 minutes from the time the topic is revealed upto the time the actual debate begins. After five qualifying rounds, the top-scoring teams continue on towards the grand finals. Topics usually vary based on recent events, including politics, economics, religion, and culture.
