The Rotary Club of Dumaguete South presented former Dumaguete City Chief of Police, Lt. Col. Ronoel Fungo, with a Certificate of Commendation for his accomplishments in his 16 months in office.

RC Dumaguete South President Alex Rey Pal presented the Commendation for Colonel Fungo, an  active member of RCDS, during the Club’s victory party and Club assembly last Thursday, after winning several awards during the Rotary District Convention held May 3-5 in Davao City.

Among the awards garnered by the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South were the Award for Excellence as Top 2 Outstanding Club for Area 3 (Visayas). Another award was also given for Pal as Top 2 Outstanding Club President for the Rotary Visayas area.

The citation for Rotarian Ron Fungo, which was unanimously adopted by the RC Dumaguete South Board, highlighted his accomplishments as Chief of Police of Dumaguete, and as RCDS director for Membership Development.

Dumaguete City, under Colonel Fungo’s stewardship in the Philippine National Police, had been cited for being the Fourth Safest City in the Philippines by a travel website that compares cities all over the world.

Rotarian Ron Fungo’s support for projects initiated by RC Dumaguete South was also cited as having helped the Club garner the recent awards given in Davao.

Colonel Fungo was relieved last Monday as  Dumaguete police chief after he raised concerns about his unit’s capability to provide security for about 20,000 participants in a “prayer rally” (that turned our to be a political rally) scheduled for May 7 at Pantawan 2, which was the reason for the City’s revocation of the event’s rally permit.

Colonel Fungo is now assigned at the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, with Lt. Col. Don Richmond Conag replacing him as Dumaguete Police OIC. (RCDS PR)
