Former Finance Secretary Gary Teves, a prospective gubernatorial candidate, led the launching of Gugma ug Tabang last Friday at the Dumaguete Quezon Park.

The movement, Teves said, promotes volunteerism in Negros Oriental. “I believe there is a Jesse Robredo in all of us, willing to serve even without recognition,” he said, adding “We’ve been conducting medical missions, relief operations, basketball and volleyball tournaments, among other projects, and we saw a need to consolidate all our efforts under one name.”

Present at the launch were Reps. George Arnaiz and Pryde Henry Teves, former Rep. Meniong Teves, local government leaders, and representatives from different sectors, who gave their response to the rationale of Gugma ug Tabang. Volunteers from across the province also came to witness the launch.

Teves pledged to find ways of looking for ways to promote change in people’s lives by way of programs that would help the people get food and work. (PR)
