Retired banker-turned-journalist Renato “Rene” Rusiana Genove died from an unexpected ailment on Jan. 3. He was 67.

Genove, a graduate of the Bachelor of Journalism program at the College of Communication at Silliman University, became a bank employee with the Philippine Commercial & Industrial Bank in Cebu City, and then in Dumaguete.

Upon his retirement, Genove started writing a newspaper column for the Sun Star Bacolod, and later became the Negros Oriental bureau chief of the Visayan Daily Star.

He also served as a three-term barangay councilman of Barangay 6 in Dumaguete.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Cecile Madroñal-Genove from Cagayan de Oro City, their children Percival Gerard & Joy, Vito Carlo, and George Michaell, and three grandchildren; his 93-year-old mother Rosalind Rusiana-Genove, and his younger siblings: Joel Genove and Genevieve Molas.

Interment will be on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Dumaguete Memorial Park after an 8 a.m. funeral mass at the Mother of Perpetual Help Church. (AP)
