GMA Records ends the second quarter on a high note as it continues to magnify the talents of Kapuso artists Julie Anne San Jose, Kris Lawrence, Persephone, Yelle, and Blanktape and showcase two commended projects namely Bayan Ko and My Kontrabida Girl.
After the success of her solo concert It’s My Time, Julie Anne San Jose continues to hit high notes as her self-titled debut album exceeds the Quadruple Platinum Record status with over 60,000 units sold for combined physical CDs and digital downloads.
Awarding was done June 23 in GMA’s newest Sunday fare Sunday All Stars. Continuing to bring soul to her musical career is her latest single For Everything which was recently chosen as Brgy. LS Most Wanted Song of the Week and will be the theme song of the upcoming Koreanovela My Daughter Seoyoung.
Meanwhile, R&B Prince, Kris Lawrence finds himself exploring the emotive trappings of love through his 12-track album Spread the Love. Leading the soul-fueled record is the single Ikaw Pala, which is the love theme of GMA’s newest Koreanovela Padam Padam. Currently available in digital format, Spread the Love is infused with Kris’ signature vocal stylings plus symphonic productions and heartfelt vibratos.
Speaking of love, here comes the female-fronted act Persephone breathing new life into the music scene. Relatively new to the industry, this melodic trio expresses everything a band of its caliber should convey–keen attention to the nuances of love, sweet catchy choruses, and good old-fashioned songwriting courtesy of its lead singer Barbara Jeanne. Persephone offers a straightforward album narrating certain universal truths and scenarios about relationships.
During the 2nd quarter, GMA Records also released the album titled Sana’y Mapansin: Certified Ka-Pusa by Blanktape.
Fans of heartfelt songwriting will definitely love OPM’s new muse Yelle with her first single Bubble. Staying true to herself, Yelle draws her inspiration from personal experience that are channeled through her lush vocals and laid over wistful melodies. Bubble is a delightful indie pop goodness with Yelle’s delicate vocals cooing confessional lyrics like they were taken straight from her diary.
The second quarter of 2013 also saw the release of GMA News TV’s first original series titled Bayan Ko on DVD. Starring Rocco Nacino, Pen Medina, Ping Medina, Mercedes Cabral, LJ Reyes, Betong Sumaya, and Love Anover, Bayan Ko is inspired by the life of Jesse Robredo as well as the social realist films of director Lino Brocka. Directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., Bayan Ko tells the story of newly elected Mayor Joseph Santiago, who sets out to make a difference in the fictional town of Lagros. (PR)
