Silliman University has partnered with GMA Network to bring the “GMA Masterclass Series: Dapat Totoo” to Dumaguete.
The final stop of the Visayas leg of the series will be on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
The event will feature GMA Network media personalities who will discuss the critical role of the May 12 midterm elections in shaping the nation’s progress.
“Given the significance of this election, it is essential that Filipinos, especially the youth, are well-informed, engaged, and empowered to make responsible choices,” said Dr. Warlito Caturay, director for Media & Public Affairs at Silliman who is spearheading the event.
“As the future leaders of our nation, young people must be equipped with the knowledge and inspiration necessary to actively participate in the democratic process,” Caturay added.
On Feb. 21, Oliver Victor Amoroso, GMA senior vice president and head for Integrated News, will meet with mass communication students for a talk on trends in the media industry.
Amoroso graduated magna cum laude in Mass Communication from Silliman in 2001.
Amoroso’s talk and the GMA Masterclass are highlights of the SU College of Mass Communication as it celebrates MassCom Week from Feb. 17-21.
Other Silliman co-organizers include the Office of Community Engagement & Service-Learning, the Student Government, and the Culture & Arts Council. (SU Media & Public Affairs)
