The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Oriental has begun surveying a 13-hectare government-owned property in Basay town to establish a housing project for former rebels.
Manuel Galon, provincial agrarian reform officer, said Friday that the survey is ongoing in Barangay Bongalonan, formerly occupied by the CDCP Mining Corp.
“The survey will determine the area for 100 houses and a communal garden for the beneficiaries,” Galon said.
The project will benefit 93 former New People’s Army rebels who surrendered to the government in recent years.
Each beneficiary will receive a 200-square-meter lot for their homes, while seven additional houses will be allocated for other FRs pending validation.
The beneficiaries will also be issued individual land titles or Certificates of Land Ownership Award.
The project, launched by the Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict during the term of slain Gov. Roel Degamo, initially received P60 million in funding.
