Under Presidential Proclamation Number 711, Jan. 22-28, 2012 has been declared as National Autism Consciousness Week. This celebration aims at generating awareness in the community about autism and providing appropriate services and opportunities to persons with the said condition.
The Autism Society Philippines Dumaguete City Chapter, and GPRehab have prepared a list of activities which will take place during the last week of January. There will be a free assessment for children manifesting signs of autism and speech impairment starting at 1pm on Jan. 22 at Robinsons Place Dumaguete Main Atrium There will also be a seminar-workshop on Speech Therapy made Easy for Parents and Teachers by Kathy B. Reyes, a Manila-based speech therapist from 1pm on Jan. 24 at St. Paul University Open Hall.
To culminate the one-week celebration, a flash mob has been scheduled at Robinsons Main Atrium at 4pm on Jan. 31. The participants are Education students and dance troupes from St. Paul University, Silliman University, Foundation University, and Negros Oriental State University. A short program showcasing the talents of children with autism will follow.
