This year’s Grand Alumni Homecoming at the FU Greens last July 4 was a huge success headed by the FU Alumni Association Inc.

An arrival honors for Guest Speaker Col. Cirilito E. Sobejana of the Philippine Armed Forces was done with Hon. William Ablong together with President Victor Vicente “Dean” G. Sinco and the local unit of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) of the University. Col. Sobejana also received Special Recognition for his works and contribution to the country awarded by FU Alumni President Dr. Charlotte V. Carino.

Mr. Jose Juvileo D. Acabal, Outstanding Alumnus for 2013 in the field of Corporate Business Management, gave his Welcome Remarks to this year’s attendees signifying the importance of giving back to the University and bringing along fond memories of High School and College Life. Recognition of classes was done especially for the Golden and Silver Jubilarians- Batch 1965 and 1990 for the University High School.

For this year, the Alumni Association gave awards to eminent alumni for exemplary public service. Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves and Santa Catalina mayor Nathaniel Electona were among the government officials given due recognition among many others. Alumni from the Department of Education and Philippine National Police were also given awards for their works on public service.

For the Field of Education, Dr. Orlando G. Cadano of Tanjay City Schools Division, was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Awards together with Mr. Estanislao V. Alviola for Corporate Business Management. Dr. Cadano finished his Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctorate Degrees in Foundation University. In his speech, Dr. Cadano thanked the University for his tertiary education and reminisced his student years not just an academic person, but in being a student leader.

Mr. Alviola, for his part, shared how he has overcome the first student representation and making communication channels between the studentry and administrators during his term as Student Government President.

President Dean Sinco gave a short message on his plans for the coming years as University President. He showed “FU Atong Dalan,” a video presentation about Foundation University highlighting its state of the art facilities and different program offerings.

Dinner was held with a musical entertainment courtesy of saxophone virtuoso Mr. Jay Cyrus Villanueva, the University Band Conductor. Games were played with assistance from the Student Teachers Organization. Laughter abounds during the Epic Picture Frame wherein the colleges portray specific themes with Dumaguete City Councilor Lani L. Ramon as judge. Mrs. Ramon also happens to be an alumnus of Foundation University.

A raffle draw was held to registered attendees giving out an array of door prizes. Everyone was ecstatic on meeting old friends and making new ones from their respective colleges. As they say, in Foundation University you come to see what clicks. (Febby Marton Rule)
