Gugma ug Tabang, which promotes volunteerism and genuine public service, was launched in the 3rd District of Negros Oriental last Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Bayawan City Gym.

Around 500 people–composed of representatives from the youth, academe, vendors association, barangay health workers, business sector, farmers, fisher folk, women’s group, and the faith community–attended the simple ceremony. Leaders from each sector also expressed their support for the Gugma ug Tabang movement.

Also present at the launch were Mayor Rene Gaudiel of Bayawan City, Mayor Dandil Abrio of Basay, Vice Mayor Nathaniel Electona of Sta. Catalina, Board Member Peve Ligan, and other local government officials.

In his opening speech, former Finance Secretary and Gugma ug Tabang founder Gary Teves encouraged the audience to strive to make the province a better place to live in for everyone.

Gugma ug Tabang was also launched in the north on Sept. 29 at Manjuyod’s public plaza.
