More than 30 youth members of the Youth Advocates through Theater Arts (YATTA), and the junior Men against Violence in Amlan (MAVA) participated in a seminar on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, organized by Consuelo Foundation’s Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention Network led by its coordinator Dauzeen Mercado, and the Gender Watch against Violence & Exploitation.
The seminar, held Sept. 14 at the YATTA Creative Space, was ably facilitated by GWAVE paralegal officers Katheleen C. Del Socorro and Elainne Q. Escorial.
Appreciative of this learning opportunity, YATTA president John Lumapay shared: “The CSAP seminar played a vital role in building critical awareness among the young people to protect themselves against vulnerabilities of exploitation. As a young advocate, it offered also the opportunity for us to share the knowledge, and for us to develop life skills like what to do when someone reports that he or she has been abused.”
CAPIN is an effort to build the capacities of various stakeholders to address and curb child abuse.
The network includes local government unit staff and civil society organizations from Dumaguete City, Sibulan, Valencia, and Sta. Catalina. (PR)
