The Department of Labor and Employment turned over a total of P1.75 million in cash-for-work assistance to 351 beneficiaries here under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program.
Labor Employment Officer Raiza Phoebe Rubia of DOLE said of the total number of TUPAD beneficiaries, 10 came for a ceremonial TUPAD payout as part of the Independence Day Job Fair in Dumaguete City.
The beneficiaries received P5,010 each for a 10-day work program for the onsite payout at the Tayasan Public Market.
“The beneficiaries, who come from different barangays in Tayasan, were dispersed for street sweeping, clearing of the canals, tree planting or depending on the project that is given to them by respective barangays,” said Rubia.
The recipients were assigned to help in maintaining cleanliness in their communities and public facilities during the 10-day emergency employment program.
Codes were released to them, and they can claim their salaries from Palawan Express Pera Padala.
Meanwhile, Dumaguete City Public Employment Service Office head Ma. Socorro Mira said 13 local companies and five overseas manning agencies participated in the job fair, which offered around 2,000 positions.
The participating companies mostly belong in the service and food industry, such as hotels and restaurants, and business process outsourcing, said Mira.
A total of 17 applicants were hired on-the-spot, four of them for overseas employment.
Applicants were grateful for the government’s job fair to give employment opportunities for job seekers in the province.
“I am thankful usa kos natagaan og chance na ma hire isip usa ka barista padung sa Saudi, this is my first time to go abroad.. unya nadawat ko dayon salamat kaayo nining job fair sa DOLE,” said Jepot Palupa, 26, from Dauin town.
