The Commission on Elections in Dumaguete City opened registrations centers on Friday and Saturday at Robinson’s Mall which was patronized by hundreds of voters.
There are four computers that capture the biometrics data of the city’s voters and one is solely assigned for verification, Atty. Agoncillo disclosed.
Atty. Agoncillo also defended the Comelec from complaints by some quarters over the supposed slow processing of voters’ documents during the last few days of registration. He shunned such allegation, pointing out that there is nothing wrong with the way the registration of voters is being carried out by his office.
He blamed the voters instead for waiting until the last few days to deadline time before registering to vote.
The people should instead be happy that the venue for the last few days for the registration of voters at the mall provides for wider space with airconditioning, seats, and even food and drinks within reach, Agoncillo said.
According to Agoncillo, there is a spike in the number of registered voters in Dumaguete City for the 2016 presidential polls, due to the new registrants, those coming of age and transferees, as well.
He could not give a ballpark figure, though, as to the number of registered voters in the city until after Saturday’s deadline for registration. (PNA/JFP)
