Despite of the many major activities concerning internal security operation as part of IPSP Bayanihan in the area, the 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion of the Philippine Army under the leadership of LTC Marion R. Sison (INF), Bn commander, had once again conducted another medical outreach activity in their area of responsibility.

The unit led by 1LT Lito Orbita (INF), CO of Charlie Coy, 79IB together with dental and circumcision teams from the 302nd Infantry (Achiever) Brigade and 703rd Community Defense Center headed by Lt. Morales, Dr. Jenny June Tigbao, the 79IB medical retainer, Negros Oriental High School Batch 94 headed by Jogin Jennifer Vilan, representatives from the Rural Health Unit of Siaton, and representatives from the office of Cong. Henry Pryde Tevez, braved the odds posed by inclement weather and rugged terrain to reach the people in Barangay Apoloy, Siaton on 22 Sept.

The team travelled two hours passing rough and muddy road caused by landslide, soldiers from the team had to get off the vehicle to clear the blocked road using their shovels.

Despite the impediments, the team encouraged more and arrived at its destination where many beneficiaries were waiting for the medical services.

The activity formally started at 10 am and ended at around 3 in the afternoon with the following services: rendered medical consultation with free medicines for 186 persons, blood pressure taking for 196 persons, circumcision for 38 boys, and tooth extraction for 40 people.

The activity would not have been successful without the support for medicines: Vice President Jejomar Binay, Sen. Gregorio Honasan, Sen. Manny Villar, Gov. Roel Degamo, Gary Teves, Rotary Club of Dumaguete, Judge Rodolfo Gonzales, and Col. Yurong; for the food, Congressman Henry Teves and Mayor Albert G Ator; for manpower support, Apoloy Brgy Capt. Rendo Tradio, and teachers of Apoloy Elementary School headed by Great Zenn Macalipay. (PR)
