A pillar in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) community of Dumaguete met his untimely death Friday dawn when he lost control and crashed his motorcycle in a half-asphalted section of the Dumaguete-Valencia Road in barangay Bagacay.
Carlo Simpao, project manager of Entheos IT and part-time faculty member of Foundation University was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital. He was 39.
Simpao’s motorcycle skidded on a newly-asphalted portion of the road and he tried to control his motorcycle for about 20 meters before he eventually crashed and hit the asphalt face first.
Local residents said Simpao was the 7th motorist to meet an accident in that area and blamed it on the lack of warning devices on the ongoing road project.
Boy Caro, a Barangay Tanod who rushed to the scene, turned Simpao over to the policemen, who brought him to the hospital.
Simpao was a founding member of the ICT Association of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.
Danah Fortunato, executive director of the ICT Dumaguete, said Simpao’s death was a big loss to the ICT Industry in Negros Oriental.
