Eleven solved, seven more to go.
Official police records show that out of 18 murder and homicide cases from June 2010 to July 2011 in Dumaguete City, eleven were considered solved under the parameters of the police while others are pending in court.
The clarification was issued in the wake of too much talk about so-called unsolved crimes in the city that has solicited adverse reactions against the leadership of City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.
Sagarbarria has accepted the challenge and is taking full responsibility of peace and order concerns that had transpired in the city as local chief executive.
The Mayor said he welcomes constructive criticisms but not to the point of accusing his administration of not doing anything to curb criminality in the city.
Sagarbarria was seen in the company of the new chief of police, Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino, during the wee hours in the morning in his efforts to personally assess the peace and order situation, and listen to the suggestions of Tolentino on matters of peace and order.
The local chief executive said that from January to June this year, the city’s crime rate has significantly dropped by 58.12 percent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, barangay tanods from the city’s 30 barangays will be provided with one night stick each to be used in their nightly patrols.
Mayor Sagarbarria thanked the city council for approving the purchase of 350 night sticks. This is on top of the additional P300 allowance per month for every barangay tanods in the city. (PNA/Juancho Gallarde)
