Cong. Manuel Sagarbarria has described the impeachment complaint filed by an opposition lawmaker against President Rodrigo Duterte as a waste of time.
In an interview, Sagarbarria said this is not the time for anyone to derail the programs of President Duterte as he has only been in office for eight months.
Sagarbarria said the impeachment complaint will have to get the nod of a third of the members of the House of Representatives before it could be transmitted to the Senate, which will then act as the impeachment court.
With President Duterte enjoying a supermajority in the House of Representatives, the impeachment complaint is bound to fail, Sagarbarria said.
Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary Alejano filed the impeachment complaint against Duterte at the House of Representatives, and accused the President of culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, bribery and other high crimes in relation to the government’s war on drugs.
