St. Paul University grader Alfonzo Louis Olendo, honed in various national and regional chess competitions, claimed another title by sweeping the premier 12&Under Category with a perfect record of six wins during the 2014 Inter-School Rapid Chess Championship held at the Perdices Stadium.

Top-seeded Sara Francine Olendo settled for 2nd place. SPUD Grade School made another 1-2-3 finish with fellow regional player Rae Marco Fernandez claiming 3rd spot.

CVIRAA NegOr Division top board Joseph Lawrence Diaz landed at 4th place, while Stephan Mae Bersabal of Bais Pilot School and Kevin Cris Acupanda of Silliman University tied at 5th spot.

In the 8&Under Category, Juram Enumerabellon of Palinpinon Elementary School in Valencia, dominated the field with a perfect score of six points.

Justin Benedict Barron of Bayawan City was at 2nd place, with Bais Pilot School’s Genoah Repel claiming 3rd place honors. Gerald Faustorilla of West-SPED placed 4th, while Angel May Romadia, also from Bais Pilot School, landed at 5th place.

Special awards went to Repel as 8&Under Top Female, and Sara Olendo in the 12&Under Category. Youngest Participant Award went to Arleah Sapuan of SPUD and Romadia of Bais.

Cash prizes and medals were awarded to all the placers. Certificates of Participation were likewise handed out to all the kiddie players. A Certificate of Recognition — Biggest School Delegation Award was given to SPUD Grade School.

The chess tourney was sponsored and organized by Negros Club 64 Inc. with its president, Hilbert Arinaza, approved by the Department of Education, and in full cooperation of the Negros Oriental Sports Development Program headed by Paultom Paras, with chess program coordinator and tournament director Florendo Zamora.
