To what do you attribute your achievements? Sports has been my passion. I do this for personal satisfaction.

How do you actualize perseverance, discipline, sacrifice? What do you do months before a race? I’m diligent with my training. I always consider the condition of my body. If I feel really tired, I don’t train, even if it’s in my schedule to train, as what any other athlete would do. I train, I condition myself my body and my mind for the event/race.

What do you do each night before going to sleep? What do you do every morning — that brings you closer to your goal? I usually drink a glass of water before I go to sleep, and pray. I try to sleep at least six hours every night. When I wake up, I pray, then drink at least half a litter of water, then I do some stretching.

What do you eat? What do you try to avoid? Normally, I have two slices of bread with peanut butter, jam, and coffee for breakfast. Then I have fruits in between meals. Then I have a heavy lunch, and a light dinner. I generally don’t avoid any foods, just the fatty ones.

Do you believe in taking power tables and vitamins? What do you eat to fuel during a race? (how many GUs, etc) I take multi vitamins and Vitamin C. I take power gels, and power bars during a race. I prefer chocolates when I’m just training, as it works the same for me.

How do you relax after a race? How do you reward yourself? I get a massage, I have cold drinks to hydrate, and eat a lot.

What do you do if you’re not swimming, biking, or running?
I also work [hard] for the money. Then I chill out with friends, and keep myself updated on Facebook.

What would you like to see Dumaguete do for the people here to have a healthy community? To promote sports, encourage people to indulge in sports, especially the kids, and to support athletes, athletic programs, events/competitions.

What habits did you start since you were a kid here in Dumaguete, that you continue to do today? Since I was a kid, I have always loved to explore places, do [difficult] things.

A little about yourself: how did you get to HK? What do you do there now? How did you get your permanent residency etc? What did you used to do here in Dumaguete?

Glenn was a varsity swimmer at Silliman University, and an avid mountain biker, and diligent tennis/swimming coach in Dumaguete before he left for HongKong in 2000. He took the Professional Tennis Registry Exams, a certification for tennis pros, and was hired in a sports & recreation club with the help of his friend Adrian Gamo. He’s now a permanent resident of HongKong.

Aside from coaching tennis in Hongkong, Glenn also coaches swimming for which he also holds an International Certification; conducts gymsports for kids, and is a personal trainer certified by the National Academy of sports Medicine.

He’s now taking Level One coaching course for triathlon.

He said he’s grateful that the Dumaguete Amateur Runners & Striders (DARS) is helping make Dumaguete take on an active and healthy lifestyle.
