A boom in the construction industry is experienced in Dumaguete City, with hotels sprouting in the city, the latest of which is the Sierra Hotel in Barangay Piapi, while land preparation for the Quest Hotel also in the same barangay.

City Mayor Felipe Remollo said that with Fil Invest already in the city and the soon-to-rise condo-tel and marina in that area, it will change the entire face of the entire boulevard and also affect the business climate of the entire city with job opportunities in the pipeline.

After hearing that Fil Invest is in the city, another businessman has signified its intention to construct a floating restaurant along the boulevard, the mayor disclosed.

The businessman, whom the mayor prefers to remain anonymous until the project can take off, visited him at city hall Tuesday afternoon to seek for guidance.

Remollo was initially amenable with the project provided the design of the floating restaurant will complement with the city’s master plan of the Rizal boulevard with the beach volleyball court ready for expansion up to the Silliman portal by the sea.

After the presentation of the proposed project, Remollo has given a sort of a go signal to the proponent for the conduct of a feasibility study and to comply with all the environmental requirements.

The mayor also told the investor to present the proposed project to the Philippine Ports Authority that has authority over the port zone to make sure the path of vessels are not distracted. (PNA)
