2025 exit plan
After thinking about running for the gubernatorial post or a congressional seat, three-termer City Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo may eventually choose to run for Dumaguete vice mayor if only to ensure the victory of his son Atty. Felipe Claudio “Dio” Remollo in his 2025 mayoralty run.
This was announced by Cong. Chiquiting Sagarbarria during his weekly press conference Thursday with the Dumaguete media.
The Mayor has yet to respond to MetroPost’s request to confirm the information, although Congressman Sagarbarria said it was Mayor Remollo himself who told him so in their recent conversation in Cebu City.
In his press conference, Sagarbarria renewed his assurance that Dio Remollo will have his endorsement, and the support of all the barangay captains in Dumaguete in the 2025 elections, provided that Mayor Ipe will not run for governor nor for Congress.
Under the Unity Team, Congressman Chiquiting’s son, Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria is the candidate for Governor; and his wife, Dumaguete Vice Mayor Maisa Sagarbarria will replace him in Congress representing the 2nd District of Negros Oriental.
Congressman Chiquiting said he is still trying to get all the 25 town and city mayors in the Province to join the Unity Team. So far, he said, 20 mayors have aligned with the Unity Team.
(As of press time, only Guihulngan, San Jose, and Bacong remain not aligned with the Unity Team.)
Meanwhile, Sagarbarria announced the possible Unity Team candidates who will be fielded for various positions in the 2025 elections:
For vice governor, they have yet to choose from among three chief executives in the 3rd District: Siaton Mayor Fritz Cezanne Diaz, Bayawan Mayor Jack Raymond, and Dauin Mayor Galicano Truita.
For the 1st District representative, the candidate will be the choice of Cong. Josy Limkaichong;
For the 3rd District, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo will be fielded to replace the seat left vacant by ousted Cong. Arnie Teves.
Congressman Sagarbarria said these choices do not mean that no one else can be a candidate. He said anyone is free to run in an election. (AP)
