City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo is optimistic that additional flights to and from Dumaguete will boost the local economy.
The first of three scheduled weekly night flights of Cebu Pacific arrived at the Sibulan airport Friday.
The additional flights from Dumaguete to Manila will be deployed to leave Dumaguete at 8 p.m.
The Mayor stressed the additional flight will entice tourists and businessmen alike to come to Dumaguete for a convention or a one-day visit and then fly back to Manila in the evening.
Remollo has observed that a lot of tourists have to travel via Cebu and Bacolod before reaching Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City, dubbed as one of the best retirement places in the world.
The Mayor also announced that starting July 26, additional four flights a week will be availed of by airline passengers from Dumaguete to Davao and vice versa; and soon, Clark to Dumaguete for passengers and visitors from Luzon, and one additional flight of Philippine Airlines early in the morning.
According Remollo, the fielding of additional flights to and from Dumaguete is in support of the City’s quest to become the next regional hub for Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games eliminations.
With the additional flights, sports enthusiasts, delegates, officials, and athletes would have several options to come to Dumaguete, Remollo said. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
