Thousands of job positions here and abroad are up for grabs during the May 1st Labor Day celebration here.
Maritess Mercado, provincial chief of the Department of Labor and Employment, disclosed that some 4,000 job vacancies for overseas and some 1,000 for local employment will be made available during the Labor Day jobs fair on Monday at the Negros Oriental Convention Center in Dumaguete City.
The provincial government of Negros Oriental, through its Public Employment Service Office is spearheading the activity, in cooperation with the DOLE, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council, she said.
Mercado further said there will also be an industry fair and government services by the DOLE, Overseas Workers Welfare Association, Social Security System, Pag-Ibig, PhilHealth, Department of Trade & Industry, and the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority.
Eleven overseas recruitment agencies and 21 local employers are participating in the jobs fair, she added.
Meanwhile, an estimated 1,000 job vacancies were made available during two local jobs fair held April 26 and April 29 in Dumaguete City.
Dumaguete PESO chief Ma. Socorro Mira disclosed that the city government conducted a local jobs fair at the Public Market Complex in Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo has directed the PESO to conduct more job fairs to address the unemployment problem in the city, Mira said.
The PESO chief is inviting all unemployed to visit the PESO office and bring at least three sets of resumé with picture and a certificate of employment if available, she added.
Another local jobs fair was schedule Saturday, April 29, in Barangay Junob, Dumaguete City, according to Mira.
This is in line with the HEAVEN (Health, Education, Accountability, Violence prevention, Environmental protection, and Networking) program of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Dumaguete. (Judy Flores-Partlow/PNA)
