A Manila Regional Trial Court Judge has ordered the Secretary of Foreign Affairs to cancel the passport of dismissed Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., and bring him back to the Philippines pursuant to the warrant of arrest issued by the court so he can be dealt with in accordance with law.
In a 14-page decision dated Feb. 8, Judge Marianthe Pacita Zuraek of the Regional Trial Court Branch 51 in Manila granted the ex-parte Motion of the Prosecution to cancel Teves’ passport after resolving the series of Motions filed by the counsel of Teves and the Prosecution.
Teves is accused of masterminding the March 4, 2023 assassination of Gov. Roel Degamo and 10 others by former military personnel in the Governor’s residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
Teves has denied the accusations, saying he has nothing to gain by killing Degamo, his political rival.
In her decision, Judge Zuraek said the motion of Teves is denied because he is not entitled to relief from the court because the court has not yet acquired jurisdiction over him.
Teves has refused to return to the country, citing threats to his life. He is believed to be staying in Timor Leste near Indonesia, south of the Philippines. (AP)
