The Silliman University Law Alumni Association held its 23rd general assembly at the Luce Auditorium on Aug. 25, 2011 at 10 in the morning with Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Alberto A. Abad as guest speaker. The affair was also a special academic convocation co-sponsored by the SU College of Law and the Sen. Jovito R. Salonga Center for Law & Development.
Justice Abad spoke on “Justice and Freedom, Lessons from Daniel” in line with the theme Citadel of Hope, Bastion of Freedom.
The College of Law expressed its gratitude to Cesar Jalosjos, and the Guanzon family for their generous support in the form of development facilities. Before the convocation, Justice Abad was treated to breakfast by the Regional Trial Court Judges headed by Executive Judge Fe Lualhati Bustamante, Gerardo Paguio, and Marie Rose Inocando-Paras. Also present were Judges Noel Catacutan, Rosendo Bandal Jr., Cresencio Tan, Jr. and Arlene Dato.
SULAW members witnessed the dedication of the first-ever DNA and Forensic Laboratory in the Visayas and Mindanao, which forms part of the Law and Development Desk of the Salonga Center. It’s a joint undertaking through Atty. Shiela Lynn Besario and the SU Department of Chemistry headed by Dr. Paulina Suarez-Aspilla.
The Law Alumni Association elected its new set of officers: President Gloria Futalan, Vice-President Dinah Tabada-Chu, Secretary Ramon Antonio Ruperto, Treasurer Glenda Yee, Auditor Ligaya Violeta, and Board Members: Cory Perez, Lea Villarubia, Ann Bulado, Rommel Mirasol, Ramon Nakao, Jason Bandal.
