There’s a lot of excitement in Dumaguete this week over the many activities that will be held to mark the 67th anniversary of its conversion from a town into a city.
Aside from the traditional beauty pageant, sports and cultural activities, this will be a special event because of the presence of the executives of our two sister cities.
Mayor Trish Spencer of Alameda, California, USA, and Mayor Park Se Bok of Yeongdong-gun South Korea, are leading their respective delegations in attending Dumaguete’s Charter Anniversary and Fiesta. This will be the first time for Dumaguete to have representatives of its sister cities for this annual event.
On this visit, Mayor Spencer and Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria will formalize the sisterhood agreement between the two cities.
Dumaguete will have a lot to show our visitors, after just having won the top award from the national government for its tourism program. It has also gotten awards and distinctions from the national government for its sound fiscal policies and other achievements.
To be certain, our sister city representatives will be on the lookout for opportunities for better cultural and social exchanges. We have a lot to offer in the arts, such as our visual and musical artists, in sports, especially mountain biking and archery. We can have faculty, student and business exchanges.
The possibilities are endless, so let’s keep exploring!
