Four children including a one-year old child were safely rescued during a fire that hit a residential building in Purok Balahaan, barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City Friday.

Razed to the ground was the house owned by Myrna and Miko Gablinez who were both not around during the fire.

According to Fire Marshal PC Insp Manases Bautista, after hearing an explosion that apparently originated from the room where the child was sleeping, the yaya immediately went inside despite the thick smoke that may suffocate her.

He said the fire station received the phone call at 11:34 in the morning, they arrived at the fire scene at 11:42 and the fire was placed under control at 11:55 noon.

PCI Bautista said fire has already engulfed the whole building when they arrived at the fire scene because it is made of mix concrete and light materials.

Initial investigation showed that the air conditioning unit inside the room exploded that caused the fire. Statements of the househelp was also corroborated by the son of Gablinez that the air conditioning unit inside his room exploded.

Estimated damage to property is P320,000 excluding the contents of the house like appliances. (Juancho Gallarde)
