The city government of Dumaguete and the Environment & Natural Resources Office collected 2,670 kilos of garbage during the May 12 clean-up along the coastal barangays in the City.
ENRO Fishery Coordinator Roy Lumjod said the activity was participated by the City Hall employees and government officials in line with Ocean Month celebrations this May.
Lumjod said the coastal areas of Dumaguete are rich in fishery and marine resources but can soon be depleted if the people neglect their responsibility to help save and protect the dwindling resources.
The City government of Dumaguete has been implementing Ordinance no. 88 or The Comprehensive Coastal Resources Management Program to address coastal problems like dumping of solid waste along the waterways.
