A Korean national drowned Wednesday while on an excursion to the famed “Maldives of Negros Oriental”, the Manjuyod Sandbar in Manjuyod town.
Police identified the victim as Kim Suk Chan, 65 years old, from Seoul, South Korea.
Initial police investigation disclosed that a group of nine Koreans booked a tour for the day at the municipal tourism office of Manjuyod.
Around 12:30 p.m., the police received a call from the Manjuyod Tourism Office that one of the Koreans, who was last seen snorkeling with his fellow Korean nationals, had gone missing.
Ricky Soler, president of the Boat Operators’ Association of Bais City, alerted authorities and other boat operators, who launched a search.
Around 1:30 p.m., a shellfish vendor found the body of a snorkler around 650 meters south of the location of the cottages in the water, Soler said.
The Korean national was brought to the Bais District Hospital in Bais City, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. (With a report from Judy Flores Partlow/PNA)
