Lenten break

There is a time for everything, the Good Book says. Tourists may have a hard time comprehending this unique exodus of sorts, as this is not observed in other countries.

In the Philippines, this is the week that travel will reach feverish heights across the country. Airports and seaports, as well as bus stations, are packed with passengers all longing to be somewhere else when the Holy Week sets in.

The church advises people to reflect and meditate on the life of Jesus and his supreme sacrifice, and many people have as many ways of doing just that. For some, this means taking a break from the daily routine. To do something out of the ordinary.

And that’s why all roads lead to Dumaguete this week, as it does something out of the ordinary. It is putting its best foot forward as it hosts not one, not two, but three major sporting events this week – the archery tournament, the dragon boat race, and the national little league baseball tournament.

We welcome all the participants, their parents and significant others, officials and spectators to our shores. We also welcome back Dumaguitnons from other parts of the country and the world, who are here to spend time with their loved ones in family reunions.

May this week also be a time for spiritual renewal, as you experience the pleasant and serene surroundings of your chosen destinations.

Have an enjoyable, peaceful and memorable stay in this City of Gentle People and in Negros Oriental.

Dayon!
