Team Dumaguete, composed of the fastest runners of the Dumaguete Adventure Runners & Striders (DARS) and the MetroDumaguete Roadrunners Club (MDRC), bags the championship after accumulating 97.8 percent and beating 16 other running teams in the elimination leg of the Lifesaber Laban ng Lahi 12K Platoon Run Race held in Tanjay City.

Race Director Capt. Jonel Pogoy has so far paid the champions P30,000 from the top prize of P200,000. Team Dumaguete, coached by Bernabe Bustillo, is now qualified to run the national race to be held on Sept. 10 in Cabadbaran City. Team manager is Maripol Rotea-Tecson and Team nutritionist is Merilyn Kays.

Laban ng Lahi is the biggest Filipino bayanihan project where other running teams from Russia, Brunei, US, Japan, etc. compete where they can win as much as P3 million, with P1 million worth of concreting project for the represented city. Second place will get P800,000; third place gets P500,000; fourth to tenth places get P100,000. (Photo by Albert Tecson)
