Members of the Liga ng mga Barangay composed of the 30 punong barangays and headed by its president, Councilor Lionel Banogon, passed en mass motion a resolution expressing support to lease closed-circuit television for P7 million, to include 350 cameras for all barangays in Dumaguete.
Councilor Banogon is expected to vote in accordance with the collective decision of the Liga ng mga Barangay, whose interests he brings to the City Council.
Similar to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo’s preference, the Liga has indicated they also want to merely lease the CCTVs, instead of outright purchase that would require P70 million.
The project to install a CCTV system around barangays in the City aims to prevent and help solve crimes, boost traffic management, and serve as early warning system during calamities.
A feasibility study by masteral students of the SU College of Business Administration led by Dean Atty. Gloria Futalan concluded that leasing the CCTV system, rather than buying, has shown to be the most cost-efficient method of procurement. (PIO)
