Rep. Josy Limkaichong, vice-chair of the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives, is poised to assume the committee chairmanship later this month, following the appointment by President Benigno Aquino III of Committee Chairman Joseph Emilio Abaya as DOTC Secretary.

The House committee on appropriations is currently deliberating the proposal of the Department of Budget and Management for a P2.006 trillion national budget for 2013.

Rep. Abaya is expected to continue as Committee Chairman until after Congress passes the budget on second reading at the plenary later this month.

Abaya was earlier reported as saying that the House of Representatives will vote on second reading on the budget bill by September 20.

Limkaichong said Cong. Abaya will still chair the appropriations committee until such time that he will take his oath as Secretary of DOTC. (PR)
