The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Dumaguete, known as Revenue District Office 79 is hanging in the balance as it may have failed to reach its target tax collection of some P1.9 billion in 2013.
This was disclosed by RDO-79 chief Carolina Carcullas who said that the Revenue Accounting Division of the BIR Central Office is now currently validating the exact revenues generated by the RDO-79 in the past year.
The total revenue income for RDO-79, which covers the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, could not yet be ascertained due to electronic filing by taxpayers that needs to be consolidated yet.
However, this early, Carcullas expressed apprehension that her office might not be able to meet its target goal for 2013.
According to her, as of latest count last December, the RDO-79 had posted a total collection of P1.8 billion and there is a slim chance the shortfall of about P1 million could be achieved.
Carcullas disclosed that following her assumption to the post in Dumaguete last October, the RDO-79 embarked on massive seminars towards the last semester to reach their target goal.
She reiterated that what had spiked their 2013 target was a one-time transaction in the previous year which was the basis for the central office to increase their goal.
Carcullas is expecting another increase in their 2014 target collection of up to P2-billion. (PNA/JFP)
