TOKYO, JAPAN — A physical education professor from Silliman University is currently here in Tokyo to participate in a seminar on Sports for Development and Peace.
Prof. Manolito Saldivar II is attending a Project Management Seminar on SDP, along with 13 other sports experts from different countries.
The seminar aims to discuss the intentional use of sports and physical activities to attain specific development and peace objectives, including, the Millennium Development Goals.
The seminar is being implemented as part of the Sports for Tomorrow program led by the Japanese government. The program hopes to promotes sports to more than 10 million people in over 100 nations until the 2020, when Tokyo will host the Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The lectures will culminate with an International Symposium on SDP to be held at the UN University in Tokyo. Selected participants will be given the opportunity to present their project proposals.
The seminar, sponsored by the UN Office on Sports for Development & Peace and the Japan Sports Agency, is being implemented by the Jigoro Kano Memorial International Sport Institute, and will run until March 8.
