To form the Junior Philippine team in preparation for the international competition, the Philippine Karatedo Federation will hold its 24th National Age Group Karatedo Championship at Robinsons place Dumaguete on May 27-28.
The event is organized by the Do-Kyohan Club, composed of the Karatedo members of Negros Oriental. Engene Stoner Dagohoy, organizer of the event said they are expecting about 2000 delegates from the different parts of the country. Last year, the 23rd national competition was held in Dagupan city with over 2000 participants.
Coaches of the national team namely: David Lay, Raymond Lee Reyes, Ramon Franco and Romel Remondo will attend the event to scout for potential Karatedo champions.
Dagohoy said that in the past years, the Philippines only trained for the senior category which did not give the country the chance to compete for the international competition which highlights junior division. This prompted the PKF to start the junior competition in the year 2008.
The city and the province are giving their full support in preparation for the event, given the privilege to host the biggest karate competition in the country this year.
The majority of the federation decided to have its 24th year here in Dumaguete after the evaluation of the capacity of the place to host the event. (Kaye Syvel Martinez/SU Masscom intern)
