The Dumaguete media mourns the sudden death of a colleague who has served in the broadcast industry for over a decade.
Jufill Mira, “Dong” as his friends fondly call him, died Thursday at the age of 37, due to a massive brain aneurysm Monday which rendered him comatose until his death.
Mira had served in the Diocesan radio, DYWC-AM Radyo Bandilyo, for more than 10 years, and had established his name as an anchorman, reporter, and a dramaturgo or a radio soap artist.
Mira remained at the Intensive Care Unit of the Silliman University Medical Center with life support since Monday evening, even as the attending physician told his family he had a slim chance of recovery. He passed away around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Most Reverend Bishop Julito Cortes of the Diocese of Dumaguete, who officiated the mass on Friday morning, said Jufill was one media person who was simple, passionate, and dedicated in his work for the search of truth.
In his homily, the Bishop admitted it came as a surprise to him to learn of Jufill’s demise. While Jufill was fighting for his life, Bishop Cortes admitted he asked God for a miracle that the radio broadcaster would live.
It is not easy to understand why someone so young like Jufill gets to die early, but Bishop Cortes stressed that people must put their trust in God, and let God’s will be done, even if it is hard to accept.
For DYWC and to his media circle, Jufill’s death was a big loss. With his strong faith, Jufill started as a worker for the basic ecclesial communities in Tanjay City, which somehow provided the tenor for his work as a media person, according to Bishop Cortes.
For his part, DYWC station manager Fr. Ramonito Maata said Jufill is not just an employee of the radio station but a family member.
Jufill is survived by wife Enape and their only child, seven-year-old Jamjam.
Jufill’s remains will be brought on Monday to Sibulan; and then on Tuesday to his parents’ home in Tambacan in Tanjay City, where his body will be laid to rest on Saturday, Aug. 6. (PNA/JFP/Juancho Gallarde)
