The Dumaguete government continues to assist local workers for various job placements overseas as part of efforts to help local residents improve their daily living conditions.
City Information Officer Dems Demecillo disclosed Monday that according to City Economic Enterprise Officer Engr. Jose Ronnie Fortin, the City government deployed 76 locals to Canada, Australia and New Zealand after passing the trade test for slaughtering.
Slaughtering is a skill that can be acquired after only three months of schooling and demonstration, said Demecillo.
According to Demecillo, foreign companies appear to be not too particular with the number of years one spends in college.
Rather, they are conscious of the skills of a job applicant, he added.
A good number of the 76 Dumagueteños who have landed a job in Canada, Australia and New Zealand earn at least P200,000 a month, a far cry from a fresh college graduate who would be earning only between P8,000 to P10,000 a month, Demecillo noted.
Engr. Fortin has disclosed the Dumaguete residents who are working abroad can also take with them their respective families as permanent residents, Demecillo said.
Just recently, eight more residents had passed the trade test for slaughtering.
“Fortin, with the help of the administration of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, is seeking the approval of the Standard Training Regulation for meat cutting, butchery and deboning to allow more foreign companies to hire locals for overseas industries,” said Demecillo. (JFP)
