Love is…

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (Corinthians 13:4-7,NIV)

After Valentine’s Day, it is time to reflect of the meaning of Love. Have you told someone lately, “I love you!”? Have you been in love?

Whether you have loved or have been loved, you have experienced Love.

The 13th Corinthians verse defines Love for everyone who, at some point in their lives, has experienced love. All living things, humans, animals or even some plants need loving, and this is a common feeling, but each one has his own unique experience.

There are many different types of love: family love, friendship love, conceptual love, intimate love.

Many people have a hard time finding the right words to express this intense feeling because everyone’s experience and meaning of it is different.

The thing is that with love, it is not positive or negative; it seems to have its ups and downs. However, we still go throughout life searching for it, without ever giving up.

One mother warned her highly hormone-charged teenagers about Love: “Be careful, Love goes out the window if you do not have paniudto!” (lunch)

Or: “Ang gugma: bungol, amang, ug buta.” (Love is deaf, dumb, and blind.)

Some people say that Love makes a person temporarily insane, and he forgets reason or loses some sensibility. Maybe this is the essence of love being blind?

You kiss without fear, and without any sense of danger, do not have to see the one you love to know you love, just the way he/she is.

You accept the loved one, justify the obvious flaws, do not recognize wrongful acts. Lovers are oblivious to the truth, and therefore, unable to be clear-sighted; nor do lovers wish to hear any negative comments about the loved one.

Lovers act carelessly without assessing the risks or consequences.

“One moment of weakness, a lifetime of regrets,” some mothers warn about the dangers of deaf-dumb-blind love.

But “who, at the moment of ecstasy, would remember the consequences?”

Daghan ang nanabdos sa pasalig! (Many have become pregnant because of commitments [made by the lover].

Yes, a person lost in Love is easily manipulated, with dire consequences. People always wonder why women are beaten by boyfriends, parents, husbands, or even kids, take no action in correcting or reporting it, or even endure it no end.

You probably wonder why or how is it possible that these women end up loving that person anyway?

All in all, it boils down to one simple thing: Love is deaf, dumb, and blind; a crazy drug which can do some wonderful good or some nasty horrible, bad actions.

Love will take over your mind. Everyone for the most part falls in love at one time in their life. As they say: “It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all!”
