Though considerably having fewer members than the Nationalist People’s Coalition, the Liberal Party put their strength behind one candidate and obtained the presidency of the Philippine Councilors’ League-Negros Oriental Chapter.
Jimalalud Councilor Chester Lim garnered 78 votes to earn a seat in the Provincial Board of Negros Oriental.
There were three other candidates from Dumaguete City belonging to the NPC who also ran for the PCL presidency.
Councilors Sal Erames and Dan Leon were tied in second place at 59 votes each while JV Imbo, the common candidate of Reps. Pryde Henry Teves and George Arnaiz, obtained 27 votes.
The fifth candidate, Dumaguete City Councilor Antonio Remollo got 12 votes. Although a Liberal Party member, Remollo ran as an independent candidate.
Elected Vice President was Sibulan Councilor Mark Banquerigo (LP). Canlaon City Councilor Roderick Schon was elected secretary.
The election of the PCL officers was supervised by DILG Provincial head Mara Gentuya and National PCL Pres. Alan Zulueta. Who inducted the winners into office.
Lim acknowledged the support of the Liberal Party leadership in Negros Oriental. He called on everyone to work hand in hand for the welfare of the PCL.
