The Land Transportation Office in Bayawan City has intensified its operations to ensure the road worthiness of public transport as well as the safety of the commuters during the holiday season.
LTO-Bayawan chief Alberta Janine Lawas disclosed that they are mandated to check passenger terminals, and conduct roadside inspections to make sure there are no overloading of public utility vehicles such as buses, jeepneys and multi-cabs, among others.
Because of the long holiday break this Christmas through the New Year, it is expected that more people will be returning to their homes and taking the public transport, Lawas said.
During roadside inspections, the LTO will also be checking the road worthiness of these public transport vehicles, she added.
Meanwhile, Lawas disclosed her office recently conducted a refresher course for the Bayawan City local government unit on traffic safety, rules and regulations, and pertinent laws.
The activity was spearheaded by the Public Safety Office of Bayawan City especially for the new personnel assigned to the Traffic Management Office.
The two-day seminar covered a variety of topics, to include discussions on Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, the issuance of Temporary Operator’s Permit, and the conduct of roadside inspection and operations. (PNA)
