The Land Transportation Office (LTO) District Office in Dumaguete City is gearing up to implement measures for the safety of the riding public during the observance of Holy Week.
LTO-Dumaguete District Office chief Alberta Janine Lawas disclosed Friday that under the agency’s Oplan Ligtas Byahe, her office will be instituting measures for Oplan Semana Santa 2018 beginning next week, and most especially during the long weekend.
The next weekend will be a “long weekend” because of the twin non-working holidays, Holy Thursday and Good Friday where an influx of people are expected to be returning to their homes or for a short vacation, she said.
Lawas disclosed that the LTO hierarchy has instructed the different district offices to deploy organic and non-organic personnel in their respective general areas of operation for the Holy Week celebration.
The LTO-Dumaguete District Office covers Dumaguete City and the towns of Zamboanguita, Dauin, Bacong, Valencia, Sibulan, San Jose, and Amlan, she said.
According to Lawas, they will conduct law enforcement operations and roadworthiness check during the upcoming week.
Public assistance desks will be put up at strategic locations such as passenger bus and jeepney terminals, the airport and sea ports and at the same time the LTO-Dumaguete will also distribute leaflets to the passengers on traffic do’s and don’ts as well as hotline numbers.
Along with the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), they will also conduct roadside inspections and checkpoints.
She warned that one of their main tasks to ensure that public utility vehicles will not be violating the law against overloading but other violations will also be enforced. (Judy Flores Partlow/PNA)
