Dumaguete Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr. has assured that the City Council will conduct a review of whatever agreement was entered into between the City of Dumaguete and the City of Alameda in California, USA.
Maquiling, who is acting Mayor, made the assurance after defending City officials from accusations by Councilor Antonio Remollo that the trip to the US of the City officials led by Mayor Manule Sagarbarria, for the establishment of sisterhood ties, was not backed by a City Council authorization, and is, therefore, illegal.
Whatever understanding is reached and agreed upon in Alameda City by the Dumaguete delegation is still subject for review, approval, and ratification of the SP, Maquiling told reporters.
He said Alameda City extended the invitation to Dumaguete, and then the City went into the process of choosing “the right persons” to compose the delegation.
The Sanggunian, Maquiling said, was represented in the US trip by Councilor Dan Leon, who is chair of the Committee on Trade; City Legal Officer Neil Ray Lagahit, and Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquiling Jr. for possible tourist exchanges, he added.
Maquiling said he is confident the trip will benefit Dumaguete, in terms of direct investments from Alameda, cultural exchanges, tourist arrivals, and other linkages, to include environmental concerns. (PNA/JG)
