A joint team of operatives from the Philippine National Police Provincial Intelligence Bureau, the Dumaguete City police, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the National Bureau of Investigation, swooped down on a suspected drug pusher on Thursday evening in Daro, Dumaguete City at the height of the city’s 63rd charter day anniversary.
An initial police report said that the suspect, identified as a certain Arvin Duhaylungsod, 29, married, of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental and currently residing in Barangay Batinguel, Dumaguete, was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation around 9:10 p.m. Thursday at the junction of the north national highway and E.J. Blanco Road.
Seized from the suspect were two bricks of suspected dried marijuana leaves placed inside a bag, a P500 marked bill laid on top of “boodle” or entrapment money, and 12 match boxes containing suspected dried marijuana leaves from the U-box of the suspect’s motorcycle.
According to PNP-PIB chief Insp. Janelito Marquez, each “marijuana bundle” was street-valued at an estimated P7,000 while a match box of marijuana would cost at least P100.00.
Duhaylungsod has been placed under close surveillance for awhile following reports that he was allegedly peddling illegal drugs in Dumaguete and other nearby towns.
Authorities have intensified their operations in anticipation of a spike in illegal drugs sales amid a long list of activities undertaken since early November in celebration of its charter day and fiesta in honor of its patron saint on Thursday and Friday.
