“Matay, mingaw man!?”

This description by Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria of the crowd’s enthusiasm to cheer for President Marcos who visited Negros Oriental on Feb. 20 — that has since gone viral with over 30 million views — is now the Governor’s jingle in the election campaign.

The Provincial Information Office livestreamed on Facebook on Thursday the budots jingle (electronic dance music genre) with the controversial side comment as its title, during the Capitol program called PIO News Update.

The jingle begins with a vehicle horn beeping to the beat of the song, followed by the actual voiceclip of the Governor saying, “Matay, mingaw man!?” which rides with the opening notes.

This is then followed by an upbeat techno rhythm, with lyrics expounding on the Governor’s achievements.

Budots, according to Wikipedia, is an electronic dance music genre that originated in Davao, and is considered as street-style techno. It eventually spread in Bisaya-speaking regions.

Provincial Information Officer Juvi Calago said their jingle for the Governor, which has a catchy tune, could become a dance craze in Negros Oriental.

She said they will release the mechanics for the dance contest soon.

She said that after they played the jingle in the livestream program, a viewer from Bais gave a feedback: “Dili na mingaw kay sadya na!” referring to the catchy tune.

Calago said the jingle was an idea by her and Governor Chaco after they noted that his comment “Matay, mingaw man!?” — referring to the people’s seemingly-lackluster reaction — caught bigger attention, and even became a trending topic on social media, with the actual video taken during the President’s visit here raking in millions of online views.

That time, followers of former President Duterte did not miss a beat, and capitalized on the Governor’s faux pas to bash President Marcos.

Calago said conceptualizing this jingle was their way of riding with the tide to spread good vibes instead.

“If someone made 30 million views on Tiktok with it, might as well [have] the original person from where the statement came [to ride the tide with a jingle],” said Calago, who is also the Governor’s social media manager.

She also said they are producing a music video on the jingle, and will also feature the dance contest winners in other music videos. (AP)
