The challenge of making good the promises made by most politicians is what Bais City Mayor Karen F. Villanueva endeavors to address using cooperatives as a utile tool in poverty alleviation. She further advocates that such program follows the principles of a Family- Based Environmental Entrepreneurship wherein every member of the family is involved in their chosen livelihood.
For this, an office is especially created and headed by Florante Bacang, Environmental Management Specialist II to handle activities relating to livelihood and cooperative development. This office among others, sets the direction of already organized associations and transform them into sustainable cooperatives. Through close coordination with the National Anti- Poverty Commission, marginalized but promising sectors of society are given assistance in terms of access to financial capital as well as product and market development.
A lending policy has already been crafted for the purpose. (PR)
