“Our faith compels us to minister to the needy, advocate for justice and promote peace by bearing witness to the living gospel,” thus said Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo as he pays reverence to the City’s Patroness Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
In his message to fellow parishioners on the 399th Feast of St. Catherine of Alexandria, Mayor Remollo noted that Dumaguete City is “home to a community of believers, under the tutelage of the Most Reverend Julito B. Cortes D.D., who put emphasis on the use of the intellect and high moral sense of righteousness to the promotion of peace through constant and meaningful dialogue.”
This year’s fiesta theme is “St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish: Celebrating Peace in Dialogue.”
Alluding to the series of shootings and crimes, Mayor Remollo expresses optimism that “amid some incidents of violence that assault our morals and cause us grief, we need to re-affirm our commitment to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ to become instruments of peace and follow the example of our revered Patroness Saint Catherine of Alexandria, who converted many unbelievers through the strength of her wisdom and virtuous life.”
He underscores the need for the parish celebrate the gift of faith that inspires and behooves the believers to continue the dialogue for peace. (PIO)
