Metro Dumaguete Water is relaunching its internationally-recognized Kauban sa Barangay program this month by setting up customer concerns and payments desks at Barangays Camanjac and Batinguel on April 21 and 22.

The Kauban sa Barangay program is a grassroots campaign where MDW accepts new accounts applications, payments, complaints and offers other services. This activity also intends to make up for the limited customer access to regular service channels due to the consecutive Holidays.

The program, which commenced in 2022 with the help of the Liga ng mga Barangay, focuses on the areas of services Dumagueteños are most interested about, namely: water billing concerns, water interruption complaints, advisory on service interruptions, and account registration or reconnection. The MDW core team organizes activities addressing these through orientations that educated attendees about MDW’s projects, assured consumers of water quality and supply, and encouraged residents to participate in water conservation and source protection.

Engr. Robert Cabiles, COO of Metro Dumaguete Water, said: “The Kauban sa Barangay program reflects MDW’s commitment to community engagement and sustainable water management, embodying a holistic approach to serve the diverse needs of the communities it serves.”

In 2024, the Kauban sa Barangay program received two international awards from the Asian Water Awards and the Asia Pacific Stevie Awards. These prestigious recognitions were awarded for the program’s strong focus on community-level customer outreach and its consistent implementation.

The relaunch of the said program this month is only the commencement of MDW’s strategy to reach out to more clients and stakeholders. Further schedules shall be posted on barangay bulletins and on the company’s official Facebook page.
