The MetroPost has again bested other weekly newspapers in the country by being adjudged Best in Photojournalism by the Philippine Press Institute, or the National Association of Newspapers.
The award was announced Friday at the Hotel Jen in Manila during the Community Press Awards, which highlighted the Philippine Press Forum, an annual activity of the 55-year old newspaper organization.
The PPI also elected its new set of officers for 2019-2020, where Manila Standard publisher Rollie Estabillo was elected Chairman of the Board. MetroPost publisher Alex Pal was reelected as Trustee for the Visayas, along with Dalmacio Grafil, publisher of the Leyte-Samar Daily Express.
The other officers are Davao’s Mindanao Times Editor-in-Chief’ Amy Bandiola, vice chairman; Baguio’s Herald Express publisher Dexter See, corporate secretary and the Balikas News Network of Batangas’ Joenald Rayos, treasurer.

Adrian Amatong of the Mindanao Observer was also reelected as trustee for Mindanao.
The regional trustees will join the representatives of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Philippine Star, the Manila Standard, Malaya Business Insight and the Journal Group in the PPI Board.
Ariel Sebellino is the PPI executive director.
In his address, Estabillo challenged newspapers to adapt to technology in order to continue being relevant to its readers in this day and age.
“We have to accept the fact that the world has changed,” he said, as he cited that traditional newspaper revenues have dwindled due to the emergence of other technological means of obtaining information.
